Preventative Care for Pets in NYC
The most important part of your pet’s veterinary visit is a complete and comprehensive physical exam. Regular physical exams are used to evaluate the overall health of your pet and provide us with a baseline should your pet become ill in the future. Along with the physical exam, laboratory tests, heartworm protection and external parasite prevention, our veterinarians have developed a specific vaccination program for pets living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Vaccination Recommendations for Dogs and Cats on the UES of Manhattan
A consistent immunization program prevents your pet from contracting some of the most contagious and deadly diseases. We work with you in determining which pet vaccines are necessary for your beloved companion and form a plan for his or her protection.
Vaccinating your pet is a simple procedure that is safe and effective. Many diseases that were once considered fatal to pets are now preventable through the use of modern vaccines. A consistent immunization program, tailored specifically for your pet and based on the American Veterinary Medical Association’s guidelines, protects your pet against contagious and preventable diseases.
We realize that each pet is unique and not every animal requires the same vaccinations. University Animal Hospital offers an individualized vaccination schedule based on your pet’s unique needs and lifestyle. Pets that have received vaccines consistently for three or more years may be good candidates for titer testing. In order to avoid over-vaccinating adult dogs, we recommend serum titer testing. A blood sample from your dog can detect the presence and strength of his or her immunological response to a specific disease. Satisfactory antibody levels are considered sufficient to show that your pet is not in need of further vaccination against the disease at that time. If a doctor determines your pet needs a vaccination (upon review of your pet’s titer levels), we will perform it free of charge.
