Caring for Your Poodle Cross Breed
Looking for a veterinarian to care for your Doodle? University Animal Hospital not only provides expert care for poodle cross breeds, many of our veterinarians and vet technicians are the proud owners of doodles; they love nothing more than to interact with their clients’ doodles! UAH staff also has specific expertise with providing wellness checks for doodles as well as a wide variety of services meant to keep your precious doodle as health and happy as possible.
Doodle puppies need to begin puppy immunizations when they are around six weeks old. We provide vaccinations that prevent your puppy from distemper, parainfluenza, hepatitis, rabies, parvovirus and a host of other serious canine diseases. UAH strongly urges doodle owners who travel with their dog outside NYC to have their dog vaccinated against Lyme disease due to the large number of ticks living in wooded areas and wetlands. We can also have a once-a-month pill to protect your doodle from heartworm disease that effectively stops flea infestations and parasitic infections responsible for heartworm.
Spaying and Neutering Services
Spaying your doodle when she is around six months old greatly reduces your dog’s risk of suffering breast tumors, uterine infections and problems associated with being in heat. Neutering your male doodle minimizes his urge to “mark” his territory and suppresses aggressive and/or roaming tendencies. Also, an older, neutered doodle is less likely to be diagnosed with prostate disease, testicular/anal tumors or perineal hernias.
Dental and Diagnostic Care for Your Doodle
Don’t forget about your doodle’s teeth! All aging dogs are prone to suffering periodontal disease if their teeth aren’t cleaned and examined regularly in their younger years. University Animal Hospital offers digital dental radiography and safe anesthesia to diagnose your doodle’s dental problems and treat them painlessly.
We also have a state-of-the-art surgical suite outfitted with modern veterinary devices designed for orthopedic and gastrointestinal surgery, removal of internal/external tumors or other procedures essential for maintaining and improving your dog’s overall well-being.
Fun Doodle Facts
Originally developed for people who suffer allergies to dog hair/dander, poodle cross breeds do not have the wooly hair natural to purebred poodles. Although “doodles” allow allergy-sensitive people to enjoy the companionship of a dog, some poodle cross breeds may still shed. True poodle cross breed dogs emerge from the crossing of a purebred dog with a purebred poodle. Unlike “mutt” dogs that may possess genetic material from a dozen different dog breeds, doodles are bred deliberately to create a specific combination of two dog breeds.
