Wellness Care

The most important part of your pet’s veterinary visit is a complete and comprehensive physical exam. Regular physical exams are used to evaluate the overall health of your pet and provide us with a baseline should your pet become ill in the future. A comprehensive physical exam with one of our veterinarians will include conversations educating you about your pet’s needs as well as recommended vaccines or diagnostics based on your and your pet’s lifestyle.

Our doctors are supported by a dedicated team of licensed veterinary technicians, assistants, client services, and support staff, and cutting-edge office and communications technology. You and your pet will always be seen by a doctor with years of experience… never an inexperienced veterinarian or new graduate.

We have learned that smart and well-informed pet owners make the best decisions on behalf of their pets. We take great pride in the time we spend educating pet owners so they can make informed decisions about their pets care and treatment plans. Our entire team is available to answer any questions or concerns about your pet that you may want to discuss.

Vaccinating your pet is a simple procedure that is safe and effective. Many diseases that were once considered fatal to pets are now preventable using modern vaccines. A consistent immunization program, tailored specifically for your pet, protects your pet against contagious and preventable diseases. We realize that each pet is unique and not every animal requires the same vaccinations. University Animal Hospital offers an individualized vaccination schedule based on your pet’s unique needs and lifestyle.

We offer a wide range of thorough diagnostic testing, which can detect heartworm disease, Lyme disease, infections, feline leukemia, intestinal parasites, urinary tract infections, and many additional diseases and conditions that can go unnoticed in their early stages. Early blood testing can show evidence of disease such as diabetes, changes in liver or kidney function, or simply provide a baseline for future reference. Diagnostic testing is also included in pre-anesthetic screenings prior to dental or surgical procedures that require general anesthesia. Annual wellness blood and urine tests, along with other diagnostics, assist us in the early detection of diseases and health conditions.

Our veterinarians are highly skilled and our hospital is well equipped with all the surgical tools necessary to perform spays and neuters . Please see our Surgical Care page for more info!

Pet identification is especially important in New York City. A pet microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size and shape of a grain of rice. It is implanted beneath a pet’s skin between the shoulder blades and stays there for the pet’s entire life. This procedure is as easy and as painless as a vaccination. Each pet microchip has a unique number. This number, once registered with your information, are added to a national pet registry. Most veterinary hospitals and animal shelters have electronic scanners for detecting and reading these implanted microchips. If your pet is lost, his or her microchip can be scanned, and the information is used to reunite you and your best friend.
