Dr. Lawrence Andrew Zola
Dr. Zola has been the director of University Animal Hospital since 1989. After earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1978 from the University of Pennsylvania where he was a Dean's List student, Dr. Zola was accepted to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. After four years of study, he was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1982, giving him over 25 years of quality experience as a general practitioner. Following veterinary school, he was selected for an internship in medicine and surgery at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City. In addition to general medicine, some of Dr. Zola's professional interests include ophthalmology, internal medicine and pediatrics.
Dr. Zola believes in continuing education and attends several local and national veterinary medicine conferences each year. He maintains membership in the New York City Veterinary Medical Association, New York State Veterinary Medical Society and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Zola also has been appointed to the Leadership Committee for the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University.
A USDA Certified Veterinarian, Dr. Zola has the authority to issue international health certificates for pets traveling to foreign countries. He also issues certificates of travel for The Pet Travel Scheme which allows pets to enter the United Kingdom without quarantine.
Dr. Zola and his wife Lisa live in NYC with their two daughters, Jordan and Samantha, and the family's two dogs and two cats. During his leisure time, Dr. Zola can be found participating in a number of outdoor activities including golf, tennis, hiking, canoeing and skiing.
Dr. Corey Saunders
Dr. Corey Saunders has practiced medicine and surgery at University Animal Hospital since July 2008. A native of Paullina, IA, Dr. Saunders cared for pets as a general practitioner at Family Vet Care in Mesa, AZ from 1999 to 2008.
Dr. Saunders attended Teikyo-Westmar University in Iowa and received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in 1991. He continued his veterinary education at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1999.
Dr. Saunders is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. His professional interests include surgery and preventive medicine. Outside the hospital, Dr. Saunders' hobbies include reading, cooking, traveling and going to the theatre. He shares his home with two dogs: Jakob, a Jack Russell terrier, and Joaquin, a Chihuahua.
Dr. Monica Johnson
University Animal Hospital welcomed Dr. Monica Johnson to our veterinary team in 2011. Originally from upstate NY, Dr. Johnson graduated from the prestigious Cornell University in 2000, where she received a B.S. in Biological Sciences. After attending Cornell, Dr. Johnson earned her D.V.M at Purdue University in May 2005.
In addition to her clinical practice rotations, Dr. Johnson has lent her surgical skills to the rural population of Rosa Rita, Mexico, where she performed spays and neuters to help with animal population control.
As a USDA accredited veterinarian in New York State, Dr. Johnson has the authority to issue international health certificates for pets traveling to foreign countries. She is a member of the AVMA as well as the Veterinary Medical Association of NYC. Dr. Johnson is passionate about staying on the cutting edge of veterinary breakthroughs and regularly attends lectures and seminars. In her free time Dr. Johnson enjoys running, and she recently trained with Team in Training for the New York City Marathon and raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She lives in Brooklyn with her adorable dog Lark.
